Showcasing the organizations leading the delivery of sport in Canada.
The Canadian Sport Landscape
The sport landscape in Canada operates at the national, provincial/territorial, and community levels. While each organization has a unique mandate and operations, all sport organizations in Canada are guided by the Canadian Sport Policy, which promotes sport participation for all in Canada.
National Sport Organizations
National Sport Organizations (NSOs) are the national governing bodies for given sport in Canada. In addition to governing the delivery of sport in Canada, NSOs are responsible for managing the national high performance programs, sanctioning national level competition, providing professional development for coaches and officials in their sport, and seeking opportunities to host international competition in Canada.
multi-Sport service Organizations
Multisport Service Organizations (MSOs) lead or coordinate the delivery of specific services to the national sport community, including services related to promoting sport participation, coaching, sport at post-secondary institutions, participation for underserved groups, and more. SIRC is one of the national MSOs.
Canadian Olympic and Paralympic Sport Institute Network
The Canadian Olympic and Paralympic Sport Institute Network (COPSIN) is a collaborative network of seven high-performance training centres across Canada, designed to provide elite athletes with the resources, facilities, and expertise needed to excel on the world stage. They offer comprehensive support including coaching, sport science, medical services, and athlete development programs.
Provincial/Territorial multi-sport service organizations
The provinces and territories across Canada have their respective multi-sport service organizations. These organizations look to promote sport participation in their region by supporting the Provincial/Territorial Sport Organizations (PTSOs) in creating positive sport experiences. The multi-sport service organizations across the country have varying mandates and operations. Currently, there is not a multi-sport service organization representing Alberta or Ontario.
